Last year, the Ellenville Central School District was awarded a grant to establish its own Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) program on the Ellenville school campus. While plans were put on hold for one year due to the pandemic, the District is excited to announce that it will be launching the program this fall.

What is P-TECH?

  • A six-year program, beginning in Grade 9.
  • A pathway to career in STEM areas: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
  • A way for students to earn an Associate’s degree or certification in a high-tech field at no cost to them.
  • Focused on Network Administration and Manufacturing Technology.
  • Connected to industry partners to align learning with workplace demands.
  • A vehicle to become “first in line for a job” with industry partners, following completion of the program.

When will the P-TECH Academy open?

Ellenville plans to welcome an inaugural class of approximately 20 to 25 students in September 2021.

Where will the program be located?

The P-TECH Academy will be conveniently located on the Ellenville school campus. By Grade 11, students will have formally declared their pathways and will begin taking classes at the Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Center and SUNY Ulster. By Grade 12, students will have completed their High School coursework and will be full-time college students at SUNY Ulster, at no cost to them.

Who can apply?

Any Ellenville student who is currently enrolled in Grade 8 will have the opportunity to apply for admission to this grant-funded program. Applications will be available in March.

The program is specifically designed to serve students who are:

  • At risk in their college aspirations,
  • From populations historically underrepresented in higher education, and/or
  • Economically disadvantaged.

What will the program look like?

Ellenville’s P-TECH Academy will focus on building technical and professional skills to support the manufacturers in our region. Students will be offered the opportunity to pursue an Associate’s degree in Network Administration or a certificate in Manufacturing Technology.

Career pathways will begin in Grade 9 and include workplace learning and High School and college coursework. The pathways will provide a seamless sequence of study extending beyond Grade 12 through two years of postsecondary career and technical education at SUNY Ulster.

How will instruction be delivered?

Rigorous instruction will be delivered using a variety of methods/standards including Workplace Learning Challenges, Project-Based Learning, and Global Competencies. There will also be opportunities for workplace visits, internships, and mentoring with industry partners.

P-TECH Partners

To ensure a successful P-TECH experience, Ellenville has partnered with the Council of Industry, a leader in workforce development in the Hudson Valley, and SUNY Ulster.

Our partners will:

  • Provide appropriate coursework needed for students to earn their Associate’s degree within the six years of beginning the program.
  • Provide mentorship opportunities as well as workplace visits, job shadowing, internships, and apprenticeships for participating students.
  • Identify the jobs that will be filled by students.
